Free Printable DIY Laundry Detergent Label

So I was going through one of my MANY art files and came across the label I made for my DIY Laundry detergent container. And I thought, why not share this too!

First you need a container. I save those large plastic Hellman's mayo jars and I use them for everything but you use what you like. Why do I go through such large quantities of mayo? My boys! They're eating us out of house and home!......wow.... I sounded
just like my mother.

Anyway, the label it self is about 5.5" high by 4.25 wide if you cut it
with a little of the white around the outside. Also remember I use 2tbs because I do large loads....Big guys = large loads...or I would be doing laundry ALL the time!

Here are a few to choose from.....

Just click on the label you want to print. Then when it pops up... Rt click over the image and select "Open image in new tab". Then open new tab...Rt click on Image and select "print" Then cross your fingers (and toes) that I set this up right  ^_^

I added 2tbs to my label (which I included above) with the hopes that if I'm not home, the boys (men really) can wash their own clothes. I'm determined that they know how to do these things before they leave and go off into the world.......not sure thats ever gonna happen with my older one but I have hope.

Then I colored my label so it wouldn't clash with the blue top of my thrifty container. Feel free to color yours to match your decor...towels...how ever you like.

Next what I used was clear packing tape....not only to attach it but to keep it clean. You could also cover it with clear contact paper but I was trying to use what I had on hand.

DIY LAUNDRY DETERGENT

This is so cool I had to share it . I got the recipe from a friend, who got it from a blog called Craft Gawker   http://craftgawker.com   

What You will need ........

Bar of Soap

1 cup Borax

1 cup Washing Soda

10 drops of Lavender essential oil (optional)

Grater and Bowl

Storage Container

Scoop or Spoon

Step 1 ........

Grate 1 bar of soap into a bowl . For this part I decided to use my old food processor with the grate attachment because i was going to quadruple the recipe ....... that and I wanted to save my fingers!

Make sure to use a soap that appeals to you and your skin . I used Yardley of London Lavender but if you prefer you can use another brand .

Step 2 ........

Into a large bowl add 1 cup Borax and 1 cup baking soda. I used Arm and Hammer Washing Soda.

Step 3 ........

Mix with spoon or processor blade attachment until grated soap breaks down into smaller pieces and starts to resemble powdered detergent .  

                 

Step 4 ........         This is optional ........ add 10 drops of your favorite essential oil (I use lavender) and stir. Keep in mind that this will add a little to the overall cost but to me its' worth it.

  

I washed and saved an old Hellman's mayo container , made a label on the computer for the front of the jar , covered the label with clear packing tape to keep it looking nice and ta-da !

Homemade laundry detergent !!!

Now the original recipe calls for 1Tbs per load but I use a small ice cream scoop that was a wedding favor , (thanks Amber and Steve!) which is about 2Tbs, only because I do large loads ........ and I live in a house full of stinky guys !

I love , love , love this recipe and want to thank who ever out there originally came up with it ! It's a great detergent , does a great job and for little money per load , which during this economy is very helpful and keeps my high efficiency washer smelling fresh and clean with out having to buy special washer cleaner .
